Greenhouse on Shade Balcony
Hi All -
I'm currently keeping all my 30+ orchids indoors, and it's just becoming too 'busy'. I'm considering a small greenhouse where I can keep them when they're not blooming. I have the following as part of my colection: - Cattleyas - Miltonias - Dendrobiums - Oncidium - Cymbidiums - Phalaenopsis Factors to consider: 1 - We have 2 balconies, which are shaded (no direct sunlight). 2 - Temps go down to the low 40's (F) in the winter months, and can go as high as low 80's in the summer Due to the lack of space, I was considering one of those small greenhouses we can buy at Home Depot, but here are some questions: 1. Can anyone recommend a greenhouse that would be at max 45"wide x 15"deep? 2. If I end up with a plastic greenhouse, how would you recommend I keep it warm during winter? I'm afraid even the smaller electric heater would be hazardous. 3. Other thoughts? Thank you all in advance. |
Sausalito isn't too cold normally....like with chickens, a small light bulb would raise the temps enough I think....when I lived in forest knolls, I had my little back porch covered in plastic and then left a door cracked and a light bulb on and it was fine....my cymb just stayed out on the front porch.....good luck!
