The tag reads Goodale Moir 'Golden Wonder' - I'm not so sure of the clone, though.

First flowering and just opening.

It's beautiful. A classic Miltonia hybrid.

As far as the clonal name goes, that means it is either a division of Golden Wonder or an actual clone of it. So, it should be genetically identical to the original & have the same flowers assuming the label is correct.

The cloning process isn't perfect and mutations do happen from time to time. So that's a possible cause for the flowers being darker & less golden than you'd expect.

Flowers are heavily influenced by various factors in the growing environment, so more than likely, this is what's going on. Everything from temperature, light levels, humidity, and even nutrition can affect their shape, color, and size. The exact same plant can produce vastly different looking flowers depending on whether it blooms in the winter versus in the summer.

Yes, thank you for your response.
This is what I think too. We had an unusual warm spring and first half of summer, mostly the night tē were higher. As the spike took very long to develop, the tē might have affected the colours, favouring brown and reducing yellow.
The plant isn't very strong anyway. The two first flowers come from the same node, on of the flowers has an odd deformity. The flowers are still expanding and look nice, though 'very brown'.

There are some 'fake'-Goodale Moir's around there, too. Plants that are actually 'Sunset' or some other seldom Milmiltonias. Nice flowers, too.

Does anyone know if there are photographs of the original flower of 'Golden Wonder'?

I would like to compare in detail. As I have seen the photographs of Golden Wonder from 'nurelias' - his tags mostly are accurate - there are many differences and as I looked at the vendors page (Claessen) there are two pictures and neither is Golden Wonder nor (I think) is it Goodale Moir.

Any advice where to look?

Orchid Wiz contains four photos of Milt Goodale Moir 'Golden Wonder' and They are quite different to the one you have presented. The flower is more star shaped and as the cultivar name suggest more golden.

Thank you!
You can see more flowers of the mentioned plant when you click on my signature - it leads to my blog.

I'll look up if there are other crosses with Goodale Moir that could fit, perhaps a cross with M. candida; could be interesting.

Still waiting for a response of the vendor, I now tend to see my plant as a M. Bastian Widmer.

The vendor agrees it is Miltonia Bastian Widmer.
