Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos'

This is my little Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' that I purchased a month ago. Three spikes are blooming, the fourth one is developing a bud and I'm just thrilled I doesn't seem to be suffering any ill effects from the repot. One of the developing spikes died back but I am starting to see some new growth. It doesn't have the beautiful mottled leaves that my last two had but I killed both of those so that's a moot point, I guess :whistling

Wow, three spikes going! You have a lot to look forward to.

Well, I'll be... that fifth spike I thought I killed off (I was a bit rough on it) seems to be growning a replacement:lol:

I have looked at pictures of these in google images and some do not have mottles. The one I have has mottles, but it does not have the vivid mottling I have seen in some others. I also have psychopsis mariposa-- which seems like a smaller plant (or maybe it is a seedling?) and it has more "apple green" leaves and little spots.

I have read elsewhere (can't cite at moment) where the leaves get mottled under one kind of light, and go "plain green" in another kind of light. Bright light? Oncidium light? Not sure which. I am only happy to keep mine alive, and will worry about spots and mottling later.

PS: I hope you and your loved ones are okay (storm).

Great plant! Mine also has 4 spikes, but that's after growing it for 6 years or so....
For the mottling, on my plant it's more intense if the leaf grew in very high light, and very faint on a leaf that grew in low light. But I think some crosses just don't have very noticeable mottling.

Aha! Thank you! Actually, it makes sense because the anthocyanin which makes that red color would come out only in higher light.

Well, ladies, mine is huge and highly mottled...with no spikes... Which is preferable?🤔
