Cycnoches herrenhusanum 'svo' x Cycnoches herrenhusanum 'cindy hill'
 

I have a Cycnoches herrenhusanum 'svo' x Cycnoches herrenhusanum 'Cindy hill' that I bought in bloom and with leaves on it late last year around October or November. I think it's just in its dormant phase but I'm not sure. I have another catasetum type that is already putting out new growth. This one however is not, and there is no sign of new growth. Should I be worried or does it just have its own time frame for being dormant? The pseudobulbs are still pump except the oldest one.

That doesn't look good at all. Can you pull the plant out and get a root pic? What conditions are you giving this one?

I will get a pic of the roots later. But right now it is in an east facing window in one of the cooler rooms in the house, around 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit. Where I keep all of my catasetum types that go through a dormancy.

Doesn't look as bad as I thought, its just a small plant. You can probably rip off the old, shriveled bulbs.

When I got it it was planted in small fir bark chips. Should I repot it in that when root start growing, or use sphagnum moss like other catasetum types do.

It's fine, just doing the scary Cycnoches thing. They often look dead when resting. I mist mine lightly during the rest to help prevent tooo much dessication, but most plants jump right back. I try not to let them get as cool as Catasetum during the rest, as most do not like this. The tend to come from very warm climates and show less diversity than the Catasetum. Cycnoches and Mormodes are both very sensitive to early watering, so definitely hold back until you have good roots. Keep the humidity up and the plant a bit warmer (70°F) now that Spring is coming. Increased daylength will promote growth.

I have a Cyc. Golden Showers that has herrenhusanum as 1 parent. Mine is in the same stage as yours. I've never been able to get more than 1 new growth - the oldest bulb has always shriveled. See what happens to that older bulb. Keep it.
BTW - a tip. Don't remove all old roots in future. They help stabilise the bulb when replanting as they can be spread into the media.

I plant mine in a 50/50 moss/bark mix. This group more fussy about watering than media .
