This one is labeled as Epidendrum porpax. The lip isnt right for porpax. Hybrid? Actually the more I look at it...it really doesnt look like porpax at all. :hmm

I set it on my north windowsill with my tolumnia but it's still bagged. I'm afraid if I set it free it will drop its cute little flowers

My first epidendrum.

:think2:

Cute, but definitely not E. porpax, which is a mini scrambling reed stem without pseudobulbs. I wonder if it might be Encyclia polybulbon:

That looks to be it!

Well now I have no idea what I should do with it. I have 10 phals and one tolumnia in my north window, which is my bedroom. I have an east window BUT its wintertime in Wisconsin so morning sun is a rare thing.

All that is in that room right now is my tradescantia zebrina. It's lucky if it gets watered once a week. Anything grown in that room gets neglected.

Neglect isn't that great for orchids. A north window in Wisconsin isn't a good place for a sun-loving Tolumnia. The Epi will be OK over the winter in the north window since it often grows on tree trunks under the canopy. But it and the Tolumnia will want more light when they can get it.

A lot of people in the frozen North use supplemental lighting in winter for their orchids.

Im on the second floor and the nearest tree is across the street. The light comes in my window unobstructed. This is my tolumnia. I got it last winter and it has always been in the north window. It is reblooming for me this year.

I will be moving soon so keeping in mind they prefer more light, if it is possible where I move, I will put them in a better window or even outside for the summer.

You get sun in a north window in the winter?

lauraeli 02-06-2017 02:20 PM

No sun. Only bright light.

The Epi polybulbon will do well next to your Tolumnia.

It's adorable!
