My rescued Oncidium

I probably should avoid going into garden centres at this time of year. I always buy up 'sale' orchids. This is my latest - it was horribly dehydrated when I bought it, but the pseudobulbs have plumped up nicely now. I love it - it's so dark - the camera has picked up a lot more red than actually shows on the flowers.
Not sure of the ID - could be a type of Margarette Holm?

That's a beauty! I admire people who take home the needy plants rather than the perfect, fresh ones. It's the exact methodology I use when I adopt dogs.

Wonderful!

Thanks! Those dogs must be so lucky to have you.xx

I really enjoy seeing them start to thrive after being neglected on the shop floor. It's such a great sense of achievement. Trouble is, this time of year, all the Christmas orchids are on sale and I end up feeling so sorry for them! I can't fit any more into my space though. Hmm... Time to buy a bigger house :))

In truth, it is I who is lucky to have these dogs! Not a day goes by that they don't make my life better.

Space is an issue! I just put together my light table a couple of months ago and I'm already having to plan another.

Ha yes! I keep forgetting to allow for the fact that plants grow.

Hey! Just curious as to how you hydrated your oncidium. Mine is terribly dehydrated too and the leaves are even pleating

Hi Jordan LF! I might suggest you start a new thread in the Beginners forum. You can find Forums in the left menu.

After you make 5 posts total you can post photos. You can hit the Reply button to somebody else's post, add a comment, and post it. That counts as one post. You've already made 2 posts total.

Oncidiums need a lot of water, much more than some other kinds of orchids. When they don't have enough water, the leaves pleat and the pseudobulbs shrivel.

When an orchid acts like it doesn't have enough water, either the caregiver isn't watering enough, or the roots are dead. I suspect you aren't watering enough. Some photos of your plant and the medium would help.

Are you in a wet or a dry part of Texas? In low humidity they need even more water.
