Care for Cycnoches leaf loss, and new bulb growth
Hi, this is my 1st winter caring for my cycnoches wine delight; it has just lost all its leaves. I just begun the minimum water regiment when I noticed new growth at its base. What do I do now? Do I start watering again and risk root rot, or is this just a normal winter cycle( leaf loss , new growth) . please some advice
|
Sometimes WD will make a spike from the base...not often but mine has done it. Either way, wait to see what it is. If it is a new growth, you don't want to water until the roots are 3-4 inches long and the growth has grown enough that the leaves are beginning to unfurl.

cynoches are not as critical to water as are the hybrids with the sub family Mormodes. I water Wine Delight year round as well as any Castecetum. An examples is Castesetum tenebrosa which hold leaves year round and grows continuously. I bought small Wine delight last January from Taiwan and they were watered all winter without any losses. I had Wine delight flowering this month. They are still getting regular watering

Cycnoches new growth died
Hi. I'm in a dilemma. My cycnoches developed a new growth months ago; once roots and growth were several inches , I started watering. I transplnted it into moss leaving most of the old roots as an anchor and nutrition. Then the new growth shriveled and died shortly thereafter. I removed dead growth, and now a new growth has developed. Any idea were I went wrong so history doesn't repeat itself. Plant was house under light, fan, and humidifier. Please someone help. Should I have cut all old root off?

The time to transplant is just before, or as, the new roots start growing. Waiting increases the risk of damaging roots. You may have damaged them to the point they couldn't supply enough water to the developing shoot. I would not transplant it now. As the roots develop water and fertilize plentifully.
