Oncidiom Sharry Baby Pseudobulb attacked!
2 Attachment(s)
Hey Guys,
I have an Onc Sharry Baby sweet fragrance that is stubborn and refuses to bloom.. I decided to bring her outside for the summer to provide a nice temperature drop at night and possibly initiate flowering.. also conditions are really good here in summer with 25 to 30+ day time, night 15 to 20+ and 50 to 90% humidity... plant gets morning sun till 10-11ish then shade for the rest of the day with lots of air circulation. I woke up this morning and found out something attacked one of the pbulbs... attached a pic. Other then that the plant is in great condition. It's been sitting there for 1 week and had no such incidents before this night. I'm wondering Who what could do that? Squirrel? Bird? Insect? Is this gonna kill the bulb? Anything I need to do on the injury to help it? Is my plant at risk if I leave it outside? Thanks in advance Manu |

Probably a bird. Apparently it didn't like the taste. That's very minor damage. My macaw bit completely through a pseudobulb and deeply into another on my Vazqueziella back in January. For the longest time I could look right through the one. Eventually the tissue above the bite on the bad one died, but it's healing well below. The other wounds healed nicely. I did use cinnamon on that, but probably wouldn't bother in this case. Keep those wounds dry and they'll heal quickly. Plants are always at risk outdoors, the trick is to take the steps necessary to minimize the risk while reaping the rewards. I grow inside old bird cages, more for convenience and appearance than security, but you could give it a try.

Thanks Subrosa! If I see those attacks continue I'll bring her back in or get an old cage. It's a good idea the cage but don't have any. I guess i could also just use a piece or mesh net I use for cherry trees to prevent birds of eating my fruits! ---------- Post added at 08:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 AM ---------- What about 3% hydrogen peroxide on the cuts? Would that help to prevent any infection? |
