Miltoniopsis Fungal Infection
 

I bought this Miltoniopsis in the beginning of May because of how full the plant was, and because there were numerous flowering stocks. Recently I have begun to notice that there are tiny black dots on the undersides of the leaves. They are about the size of a pinhead. Also, there are two leaves that are yellowed at the top, both having these dots. Near the pseudobulbs, there are two leaves that have some browning occurring. I have attached pictures for references. I have searched the internet for possible diagnosis, but none of the fungal diseases seem to look like this.

The plant does have some new growth on is, and appears to be happy. I keep the plant moist, but not overly wet. It is outside right now in complete shade, and the temps are in the high 70s to 80 in the day, and the 60s to 50s in the evening. The humidity is also pretty high at around 60-80% on average. I haven't sprayed it yet because I don't want to damage the flowers, but I plan on using a copper soap after I clip all the stocks.

This type are prone to leaf spots - in most cases it does no harm to the plant. The yellowing leaf may just be an old one that is on its way out.

The brown areas near the base might just be from water having gotten trapped in there. I would just make sure the pbulb feels firm under the area.

You may wish to keep an eye on it, but it doesn't look concerning to me at this point.

Ok, thank you! The pbulbs feel fine. They are definitely firm. Someone told me the roots don't look fantastic, which I would agree with (at least the surface roots), so I will pull it out to see if they are rotting. Would you recommend that I spray the leaves once it is done flowering?

I have a Miltoniopsis very similar to yours, mine is a Bert Field Eileen. I've had it for about 3 years and it has a few of these tiny dark spots, common I believe. The yellowing of the leaf tips is probably older growth and nothing to worry about.

I agree with Sonya, check the bulbs to make sure they are firm and keep an eye on it. It's a beautiful plant with loads of gorgeous blooms!

I see nothing to spray, so I would not do it.
