¿¿¿will this work...???
i saw some orchids growing on upside down terracotta pots, and ollas... so i thought this might work...
i grabbed a cheap terracotta pot that a cattleya came in, drilled some holes in it, plugged up the bottom with some polymer clay and mounted this guy... https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...1f&oe=57D1B574 in my head, it will work... LOL>.. i'll just have to spray it every night or early morning... i'm always spraying if i see something too dry.... i live in southern california and i've grown cattleya in the same place but in semi hydroponics... so, do you think this will work...? thinking of getting some of them cheap "craft" pots from micheals with no drain holes and doing some phal's around the house this way... thought's...????? |
When I switched all my orchids to basket pots, I had to pry the roots of nearly all my orchids off of the sides and bottoms of the clay pots. Based on that, I think your idea will work. :)

haha.... well, i'm making another 4 pots... will see what else i can grow this way... i'm also going to spread some chia seeds on one, and moss... btw, why did you switch from mounted to pots...? |
I wasn't using the clay pots for mounting but as pots. I decided I wanted to see the roots. :)
I love mounted orchids but it isn't very practical for me, with my conditions during the colder months, so mostly it is just the Lepanthes and a few others that are mounted. |
Different clay pots have different seep rates, so you'll have to pay attention at first.

I've seen some beautiful olla pots with Phals mounted on them using a small wad of s.moss. I've thought about trying a olla myself. I think you'll be fine as long as you water well.

I have mounted a phal lindenii on a clay pot saucer and it's doing great. Something that needs to cool slightly could benefit from mounting on clay pots/dishes ect.
