ORCHIDS FROM E-BAY

Hi Everyone,

Has anybody bought orchids from e-bay? Just wondered if they would be healthy or maybe have bugs. Kind of scared to get them from there. If you have and have their names please let me know.

Thanks

I've bought a few. It really just comes down to the seller. Some sell good quality plants, and others sell questionable plants. You're best bet is to look in the Vendor Feedback section to see if any eBay vendors are listed for the plants you're looking for.

I have purchased many orchids off of Ebay. Feedback is important. Read the add carefully to make sure what you are getting. Check around for prices so you don't over pay. Any new plant should be quarantined, no mater where you get it from.

Here are 2 of my favorite sellers:

I've purchased plants from three different places in the last month. Two of the places were traditional (and well known) orchid nurseries/suppliers and one plant from eBay. Of the six orchids I've gotten, the one from eBay is the healthiest, best looking and also the best deal (IMO)... however, I got to look at the actual plant I was bidding on. I like this method a lot and it can save some disappointment when something comes in looking different than what's in your head.

As already said, feedback is important. There are several sellers on there with stellar feedback, so I would be choosy. Personally, I avoid anyone with less than a 99.5% satisfaction rate, especially if they have over a thousand sales. If someone had a plant I liked that no one else did, I might look at someone with a lower score... but I read the feedback to see what the problem is (sometimes buyers are unrealistic).

The guy I bought from was shermantp. The plant was shipped quickly, and arrived three days after payment. Packaging was good (wrapped and padded with newspaper) and the package was well labeled to encourage proper handling. He did ship via the Post Office. I don't mind that because I prefer postal shipping, depending on how close the person is. (Disclaimer- I also work at my local PO often... so I know they will make sure I get my stuff... =D )

I just purchased 1 plant from Jaz orchids on e-bay. Haven't gotten it yet but have my fingers crossed it will be healthy. Thank you all.

Any plant from any vendor might have bugs. We live in a world full of bugs. Don't let that keep you from leaving the house.

Jazz is my favorite e-bay seller so far. The plants I have gotten from Allen are fantastic so far. I believe they come from Florida and so, I am sure there are some bugs, usually your garden variety pill bug or centipede. Keep him on your list of great e-bay sellers and you will never go wrong. One thing about e-bay though, I have always picked a plant that is huge, overgrown, and just as much money as the other ones. Really read the documentation before committing to buy. Also go to a site like AOS to see if you can care for it before purchasing.
