Orchid Naming
 

Is there a way to find out specifically what type of phaleanopsis orchid I have? I have 8 phals, but none of them were labeled with their specific names when I bought them.

Yeah! I think... Maybe...
With pictures of the flowers! Someone who has the same plant but with proper label, might know them.
But apparently most are just Phalaenopsis without ID or strange names. The other day I found out one was called "Peppermint candy" and "Spearmint candy"... At first I thought it was crazy, but now they sort of look like a peppermint candy to me.

No, you really can't find the name. Many of the growers for Box stores sell lots of un-named hybrids. And there so many thousands of Phals that even if a cross is similar looking, you can't guarantee that it is the one you have. Just enjoy it as an inexpensive NOID that still has lovely blooms.

Totally agree with Silken. Just because your flower looks similar to a picture you may find on the web there is no way of knowing for sure if they are the same. As humans we want to put a label on everything but please, let they remain NOID's as they should be.

Sometimes people can say, "That looks just like XXXXXX or YYYYYY" but they can't be sure. Sometimes you can talk to the manager at the store where you bought them, who may be able to put you in touch with the grower they bought them from, who may be able to tell you what it is. But that doesn't happen all the time.
