Aloha
I'm a newbie from Honolulu who got interested in mini orchids because of of a vivarium I put together for a poison dart frog.
Gotten a little bit obsessive with Pleurothallids & have over a dozen in my little PDF terrarium turned orchidarium. I come from a planted aquarium background which I've been doing for a few years now. I also have gotten into bromeliads (Neoregelia) which have overflowed into a vertical planter wall on my patio. Looking to network with other mini orchid keepers to pick up on horticulture tips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Welcome, BeastMaster! We look forward to your photos.

I'm new here too, welcome, everyone's very nice here, knowledgeable and helpful ;)
I've pretty much tried my hand at growing literally everything at this point and I must say planted aquariums are are challenge! If it's not getting light levels right, it's managing algae, and if it's not algae it's managing CO2 levels, then there's fert, then there's the daunting task to constaintly trim and replant those foreground plants that want nothing to do BUT stay a carpet at the bottom! So now I just grow the same few plants in all the tanks (the other half is obsessed with freshwater fish), the subwassertang being my favorite, so beautiful... and a little tip, java moss, lilaeopsis, and almost all the aquatic ferns grow well immersed in vivariums, with 80%+ humidity that is... I've only grown things, including many miniature orchids, in glass enclosures my whole life, so hopefully I can chime in and help you in out with any insight on questions you may have here... ;) |

Aloha! You're lucky to be in Honolulu! There's so many great local vendors and the varieties you can grow are amazing! :) You'll find a bunch of info here, but if you can't find what you're looking for (or don't feel like looking*) ask away because chances are someone knows!

Mahalo everybody. I've got a couple of vivariums to play around with and vertical wall planters (housing my Neoregelias) to expand my mini orchid collection. I'll post pics as they develop.
