Two New rescue Den Nobile.

Well, today I received two rescue Den Nobile. One is Den Victory Moon 'Athena' from Yamamoto and the other is a NoID.

The lady who had them did not want them any more, had them outside in her yard and did not want to care for them.

Now what is wrong with them:

The Victory Moon was attacked by snails and I was about to put it in the compost when I notice that one of the old cut canes has a small nob growing, which I think is the development of a new cane. Once I saw that I took a look at the roots and they look very good. So now I'm conflicted about putting it in the compost. Should I trash it or should I save it. Please advice.

The NoID has a lot of healthy Keikis and only minor damage. Had one very red spider mite that did not survive. That one I think I will keep, the question is should I re-pot, with the keikis intact or separate the keikis and re-pot them along with the mother plant?

Both plants got a good spray of insecticidal soap and are currently isolated from my other plants.

My next question is, both plants are potted in peat moss, I know for the keikis I can pot them in small bark, but the adult canes, should I re-pot them in the same media, peat moss or a combination of peat moss and bark?

The orchid attacked by the snails actually looks fine. The canes are still plump and it has a nice root system, so you shouldn't throw it on the compost. I wouldn't exactly say that this one is a "rescue" since the plant looks healthy (besides the tattered leaves).

As for the noid, what is the condition of the roots? If they're not in good shape, I would remove the keikeis.

Thanks, I will re-pot the The victory moon, as for the noid, I have not taken it out of the pot yet, but for I can see on the top of the media, the roots looks gone, I will take a look later today and if the roots are rotted, I will follow your advice and plant the Keikis.:bowing

I guess you are right, not rescues, maybe second hand orchids:biggrin:

So, I re-pot both plants today. It turns out that the plant with the keikis had a better roots then the snail damage plant, so I left the keikis on the plant and just provided more support to the canes. So they both got new media and now I just have to wait and see how they do with a little tlc. Thanks for your advise MrHungx.
