Miltonia flavescens in bloom
6 Attachment(s)
species from Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil and Peru
6 years ago, I obtained a small, 3 growth division of this species - I now have 3 BIG divisions from that! It grows like a weed! Cool to warm growing - it has proven itself to be quite temperature tolerant, growing outdoors year-round in zone 9; sheltered from frost, freeze, cold winter rain (haven't had that in a couple of years) :(, and very hot afternoon sun in summer. Potted in chc mix, watered before media dries completely. Thanks for looking :) |
Gorgeous!

Beautiful & impressive!

Really nice. Do you bring it inside on frosty nights or move it someplace under an overhang?

Impressive, all those blooms!

Two of them are pretty well sheltered where they grow (sheltered porch, small sheltered patio) - the other is less well sheltered, and is put into the garage if there is a chance of frost / freeze. There is this photo I first saw a few years ago, of a Milt flavescens (reportedly in Buenos Aires, Argentina), and it was apparently unharmed. I have gotten some deformed blooms when there was some unexpected very cold nights while buds where developing :p https://www.flickr.com/photos/calimecita/781625590/ |

Cool. This is a species I really like. Of course, I have a fondness for Miltonias.
I've also noticed that the Miltonias handle cold temps like a champ. Can't say it's true for all of them, but I've left them out a little late in the growing season, and they've handled temps in the 30s. Only thing I don't like about milts is that they ramble so much, taking up a lot of shelf space. |
Beautiful color combination
