Miltonia flavescens in bloom

species from Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil and Peru

6 years ago, I obtained a small, 3 growth division of this species - I now have 3 BIG divisions from that! It grows like a weed!

Cool to warm growing - it has proven itself to be quite temperature tolerant, growing outdoors year-round in zone 9; sheltered from frost, freeze, cold winter rain (haven't had that in a couple of years) :(, and very hot afternoon sun in summer. Potted in chc mix, watered before media dries completely.

Thanks for looking :)

Really nice. Do you bring it inside on frosty nights or move it someplace under an overhang?

Thanks :)
Two of them are pretty well sheltered where they grow (sheltered porch, small sheltered patio) - the other is less well sheltered, and is put into the garage if there is a chance of frost / freeze.

There is this photo I first saw a few years ago, of a Milt flavescens (reportedly in Buenos Aires, Argentina), and it was apparently unharmed. I have gotten some deformed blooms when there was some unexpected very cold nights while buds where developing :p

Wow! I have Internet friends in Buenos Aires, and they tell me they do get frost from time to time.

Cool. This is a species I really like. Of course, I have a fondness for Miltonias.

I've also noticed that the Miltonias handle cold temps like a champ. Can't say it's true for all of them, but I've left them out a little late in the growing season, and they've handled temps in the 30s.

Only thing I don't like about milts is that they ramble so much, taking up a lot of shelf space.
