How would you guys interpret this description for a particular orchid its in a book reads
" a few flowers open on a new spike at any time of the year, the spike misses a year then flowers in autumn on the same peduncle for 5 years "

I understand the first part but am stumped on the second does it mean I should not cut any spikes off that has flowered? What's your take on this

Hmm, it does seem to imply the stalk can continue flowering. What species are we talking about ?

Yes, it would help to know which orchid this is.

I'd leave the spikes alone for a few years. See what happens. But put a note on the pot when the last bloom cycle was.

The orchid in question. Is Earina autumnalis and thanks for all the feedback will leave spikes alone from now on .. Unless for course the cat decides to deadhead for me again

Bakers' culture sheet says that the spike stays alive and can re-bloom, so yes, leave it on.
