Pink/Purple Spots on leaves
 

Hi!

My orchid developed some odd pink/purple spots on one of its stalk. I'm really confused as to what to do.

Some back ground.

For christmas i was given a BIN-Blc. Zul "Waiomao Fantasy". It was shipped from hawaii to boston. It came perfectly packaged with a heat pack. it was about 40 degrees when it arrived (might have dipped below 35 at night, but i think it should have been indoors at fedex).
It arrived on christmas eve.

There is some shipping damage on the plant (cuts). Pink spots started to develop around the cuts. It formed a ring. I was told it was probably fungus. I brought some physan. I have been spraying both the leave and the medium every morning for the last 3 days. But it seems to have gotten worst. its not covering almost 1/3 of the leaf. The leaf itself feels firm and healthy besides the odd coloring.

None of my other orchids are affected nor are the other stalks. Just that one.

If anyone can offer some advice that would be great.

Is physan the wrong fungicide?

I have no idea what is going on with your orchid, but it looks scary and I would keep it far away from other plants. Physan is a fungicide/bactericide that works on the surface of the plants only. Perhaps you should try a systemic fungicide?

I had an orchid shipped from Hawaii in the same temps it was an oncidium with a spike. It had no damage whatsoever. I have no idea, but that doesn't look good to me.
