What is it: flower/sheath looks like "candy corn"
 

I had this orchid several years ago before I knew what I was doing, and I would like to find it again, but I don't remember its name.

The "flower" I believe was actually the flowers sheath like a lot inflorescence on bromeliads. It was the color gradient and size of a Halloween candy corn. The plant, about 12" including inflorescence, had one main stock with non-fleshy leaves radiating out from it.

Does anybody recognize this description?

Mediocalcar decoratum?

Oh that's cute, but not right. The flower/sheath didn't open. If I remember correctly, and I may be misremembering, little nondescript flower things came out the edges of the candy corn

It could be baptistonia silvana?

This plant did not have obvious pseudobulbs

Help us out here. Do you know what alliance this plant belongs to?

No pbulbs. Was it monopodial? Did it grow in clusters or fans?

Was the inflorescence a vertical growth with a cluster of flowers at the top or blooms along its length? Did it flower near the base of the plant?

Where did the spike grow from? The top of a growth? Between the leaves? Base of the plant?

Thanks for your specific questions as it tells me the information I need to give you. I'm kind of a beginner so I don't know all the terms. I don't know what alliance it belongs to.

I looked up monopolial, and yes it had a single vegetative shoot which grew continually upwards.

Leaves radiated out from this single shoot and I do not remember them being fleshy.

The spike grew straight out of the top and it had a single lozenge shape piece at the top of the spike. The lozenge was colored like a candy corn. This didn't open up with petals. I think a nondescript flower or two snuck out between the layers of the candy corn, but I may not be remembering that correctly.

The plant + spike was about 12".

The folks at the SF Orchid show that sold it to me said it was easy to grow. Now that I am getting my act together and my orchids are blooming I want to try to grow it again.

I don't know if I would describe a sheath as a lozenge if you are describing the tissue covered buds.

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking either an Epidendrum or one of the Dendrobiums (very diverse genus). Google them to narrow down or eliminate.
