Does this oncid need to be repotted?

Greetings everyone! I purchased an oncidium copper scarab 'brass brethren' and it came in a 4" pot. It's a very nicely sized plant, however when I realized it was more roots than media, I pulled it out and learned that it is pretty well smooshed into its pot. I know that oncidium types prefer this (at least my others do), but I think this is a wee too tight.

Just to be sure, I wanted to ask. Does this guy need to be repotted? If so, how much larger should I go with his new pot?

Thanks!

It looks like the plant fills the width of the pot and the next growths will be over the edge, with nothing to root into without a bigger pot. Best to repot just as you have new growths putting out new roots, so if not right now then just after the next new growth starts, before it starts growing roots into mostly air. You should select a pot that will allow 2 years of growth, unless you want to repot every year.

I've encountered plants like this! It's kind of mind blowing at first isn't it. Lol. I agree with PaphMadMan. Obviously you'll want to go at least to a 5", but you might also jump to a six. I'm not an expert here but that's what I'd do
