Cattleyella araguaiensis

This was included in Cattleya since it was first described, but always seemed a little out of place in that genus. It was recently placed in its own genus, Cattleyella. This is a small plant, 7.2" height, with comparatively huge flowers of 5.6" that lives in the forests along the River Araguaia in Brazil.

Hi Mauro, Do you ever get a chance to see these and other orchid you post in the wild? It is a place I really what to visit.

Mauro, that's pretty neat!
The size of the blooms compared to the size of the plant makes me go :yikes:

That's an incredible-looking plant, Mauro. Once again, I'll be driving myself crazy trying to find another one of the plants you've introduced us to somewhere available for sale here in the US. Thank you--I think... :-)

Not this Cattleyella particularly Dave, but I've seen a lot of orchids in the wild that I also grow. Cattleyas, Sophronitis, Maxillarias, Encyclias, Octomerias, Pabtia, several rupicolous Laelias, Sobralias, Epidendrums, Laelia purpurata, Pleurothallis, Rodriguezias and countless others. A simple visit to the Serra do Mar, near the city of São Paulo, is enough to get our mouth full of water.

Different! Don't see that one very often.

Steve, besides small with huge flowers, there's an extra bonus: it is extremely perfumed! Good luck looking for it in the USA, but my guess is that you're gonna find it sooner or later.
P.S. - Try also looking for Cattleya araguaiensis, which probably is its most known name.
