Oncidium with only 3 flowers on a tiny spike?

I bought my oncidium twinkle a few months ago (late fall, maybe?) and it was in spike..it had 4 gorgeous spikes filled with flowers ; nothing that unusual.

Now, it's grown two new pseudobulbs and is beggining to bud. It formed two tiny (1-2 inch) spikes, 3 flowers each, and they are starting to open..is this normal?

I found with the last bloom, the flowers would open, fade, and then other buds would open. But these spikes are only short, with no more apparent buds..

I give them good sun, and I'm assuming I water them enough..I repotted the plant while the spike was forming, careful not to disturb the growth. I found lots of new roots growing, and nothing bad. I haven't fertilized them, except the eggshells I use for calcium.

Maybe the plant has to adjust to the long nights and short days of Ontario winter?

I give my plants supplemental lighting (with daylight bulbs), and for the most part, I leave them on for the same time.

How do the new pb's compare in size compared to the old ones?

They are still growing a bit, but they aren't horribly small. The leaves are spreading outwards, allowing the pseudobulbs to show.

If the plant seems healthy otherwise, maybe it is just adjusting to different conditions/ lighting.

Your plant could use some regular weak fertilizer feedings. But I think these usually bloom about once a year. So this may be an interim bloom from some growths that weren't quite mature when it was in bud last time. I would just give it good culture and see what happens next time. Are there new growths coming as well that are quite small still? If so these will likely mature by fall and bloom normally. Obviously it is capable of blooming normally since you bought it in bloom.

I bought a NOID from Safeway last fall but I am sure it is a Twinkle. It is not blooming now and I don't really expect it to until fall again.

Actually, now that I notice, the pseudobulbs are quite smaller than the other ones, but I'm hoping they are still growing. They seem to be round and smaller, compared to the larger, thinner pseudobulbs on the rest of the plant. I don't see any other growths at the moment..

If the small pseudobulbs caused the small flowers, what is the cause of the small pseudobulbs?

It may have been adjusting to a new environment or lack of plant food. If you bought it from a store rather than someone else who had already been growing it in their home, a greenhouse environment is very different from your home. They are given ideal light, temp and humidity and often force bloomed to be available for a certain time of year. It may need to recover from all that and get back into sync with its regular bloom pattern. I would give it some time to adjust.

Please post a pic. It's far easier to tell what's going on with your plant than guess based off of a description.
