Lc. Orglade's Grand 'Yu Chang Beauty vs. Chyong Guu Swan 'White Jade' or 'Ruby lip'
 

I like these semi-alba catts but can't decide which one to get. Can you give me some ideas about them?
1. It's strange to me that the Lc. Chyong Guu Swan's flower looks quite impressive but has not received any (AOS) award yet. Do you know why?
2. Which one has fragrance? I checked on the net but got confused: some say the Orglade's grand has sweet fragrance but others say no fragrance at all. Same to Chyong Guu Swann.
3. About the Lc. Chyong Guu Swan, there are 2 variants, 'White Jade', and "Ruby lip'. Has anyone here grown both of them? Is there a difference between these guys?
4. Which one of them is the more frequent bloomer?

Lc. Chyong Guu Swan 'Maria Paula' has an AM/AOS and the 'Sau Ping Cheung' cultivar won an HCC/AOS. The cross has 6 awards, mostly from Taiwan. I don't think I've seen that one in person and don't know if it's fragrant. I have an Lc. Orglade's Grand 'Yow Chang Beauty' AM/AOS. It's an impressive, large flower but it doesn't have much of a fragrance. Just a barely detectable fragrance. It's a large plant and mine has not been a dependable bloomer. It didn't bloom at all one year. But that might just be my particular plant. I can't give you an opinion on which one to buy.

Have you considered Lc. Melody Fair 'Carol'. It only has an HCC/AOS in the US but it's highly awarded in asia. I don't have one but I've heard growers refer to it as fragrant. Carmela's Orchids and Kawamoto Orchid's offer it for sale. You could e-mail one of them and ask about the fragrance. Lc. Mildred Rives 'Orchidglade' is another highly awarded semi-alba. Again I don't have this one but I've heard it described as fragrant. Odom's Orchids has it. In fact Odom's has the others your interested in also. Email them or give them a call and see if they can tell you about the fragrance.

I have White Swan and it is a fabulous flower. It blooms every year for me and the fragrance is nice too. Somewhere (wherever the folks in charge here hide them) I have a picture of mine flowering last year. It's an impressive flower and large plant. Maybe one of the senior moderators can tell me how I would pull up an old thread I started. :bowing :goodluck:
