Rescued Dendrobium 'Hollywood'
 

Long story short...helping my brother move in to his new house and on his front porch is an obviously dead Phal in a plastic pot...in the bushes on the other side of the door, I spot another Orchid lying on the ground sideways, my newbie eye spotting new growth on shriveled up parent stalks, picked it up...identified it as a Dendro...with 2 small Keiki sprouting from the canes....yup so, my question is...should I try and Sphag and Bag this poor thing, or remove the Keiki and try and set them, even though the roots are barely and inch long...I dont have much hope for the parent plants as the root system is pretty much toast and the largest cane (there are 2) is very brown at the base...also, tucked way down in the brick hard moss it was set in was an ID tag, hence the 'Hollywood' mentioned in the title of this thread...if you have any suggestions, please respond...thanks in advance

Den.s can be really resourceful. I read somewhere where you can cut the canes and dip them into root hormone and do the whole sphag and bag thing. I am not sure on that though. I have never done it before.

As for the keikis I would try to keep growing them on the parent plate as long as posable

I would wait till someone how really knows a lot about Den.s to help.

Thanks Shushu...I had a feeling I should try and keep them on the parent plant as long possible...if the keiki had a better root system, I could def remove them with no problems...for now, i cleaned the root system (not much of one to speak of) and set the parent plant in pre soaked bark and bagged it...This is a far better environment then what i found it in....

I just have a phal-type Den, but like the other poster said, they can be very resourceful! My Denrobium looked to be at the end of its rope, but after potting it in a very small pot and watering just when it got dry a new cane sprouted. You can see the growth of the new cane here.

Anyways, as far as the sphag n' bag method, I'm not really sure. Hopefully someone chimes in with some suggestions, but some photos would help everyone else know what you're dealing with and how to advise.

I just wanted to post and say don't give up just yet, it took a few months, but new growth started on mine and it's thriving now.
