Phalaenopsis Orchid with forked Yellow Stem

Hi! I got a Phalaenopsis Orchid in April and it has kind of a fork in the middle and one fork is done blooming and turning yellow but the other is still blooming. (I've put some pictures below.) Should I cut off the one fork and leave the other or just cut off the whole spike off at the base? I water my plant about once a week and it's in an east facing window. I also noticed there was a scratch on the spike about halfway down. Should I be concerned about this?

They sometimes will do this - you can cut off the dead portion.
