Orchid nurseries in Florida Keys
 

I am visiting the Florida Keys in a couple of weeks and would like to visit a nursery / green house while there. Does anyone know of any orchid growers in the islands?

There are loads of good quality growers (some the best in the country for certain plants) just north of the Keys in Homestead. I am not aware of any people actually in the Keys myself.

The land and water is to pricey for growers in the keys, FSUorchids has put you the right course. Its a bit of a drive from Key West.

Seacloud Nursery is a small operation in Key West. I am fb friends with Julia who I believe runs it, and she posts beautiful orchid pictures all the time.

I live in the Keys and would recommend RF orchids in Homestead and Motes orchids also in Homestead area on your way down to the keys. There is a nice orchid club in Key West that met at the West Martello Garden Center Pavilion before hurricane Irma. Their website is keywestorchidsociety.org. The next meeting is Feb 18. They have been updating the location each month.
You will find orchids for sale at many nurseries in the keys, even Home depot, since many people here grow them - just not many large growers. The Island Home Garden center always has a variety in Tavernier (between Key Largo and Islamorada). Hope you have a great trip. Things are Slowly coming back to normal here!

While in Key West, stop in Neptune Designs, and look up Jay Pfahl. He and his wife own the store. Jay is the guy who puts together the Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia. You might get to see some of his collection.

We vacation in the middle keys (usually Marathon or Big Pine Key) this time of year. Did not get to go this year, but hope to be back vacationing next year. There was a good flea market in Big Pine Key on Sat and Sun that had a couple of venders that sold orchids there. One was Orchids from Wes, who lives in Big Pine. I don't know how he faired though Irma. But he would let you come and visit his greenhouses. Most of the festivals have someone who sells orchids there. Check the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce website for dates and locations.
