Orchid root tips cut off
 

What happens when orchid root tips are cut off? is the rest of the root killed in the process? or does the root stop growing and only absorb water? or do I have no idea what I am talking about?

It probably depends on the orchid.
But when my phals aerial roots accidentally get sheared off the roots normally branch out and continue growing.

They might die, but often will start a new grow tip above the break somewhere
