tetraspis question

:hello I have a question regarding the phal tetraspis. I posted this question in the phal species section, but it hasn't been answered, so i decided to post here. I am looking to purchase a tetraspis with the distinct red non patterning red petals. I have found a vendor that is selling the alba variety that would be all white I am assuming. Also they list the other as with spots. Now my question is, is that the variety that I am looking for or should it be labelled as tetraspis C#1? Are they the same or is this another variety of the same plant? I hope I haven't totally confused you thanks for the help.

Just to confuse you some more - it can be called Phal. speciosa C1 :).

If you are looking for this one:

It was labelled Phal. tetraspis(speciosa) C1 and I got it in Canada from Kingfisher Orchids with multiple spikes.

my advice to you, and the only way to be sure is to purchase a plant in bloom.

I have a tetraspis and a speciosa c#1. The tetraspis will flower within a month and only then will I be sure if I got one with red "blotching". The speciosa is still a seedling. Adding to the confusion is that some vendors mix the two up.
Ten Shin Gardens is a good vendor for tetraspis and does sell at quite a few shows. If mine is about to bloom, then its likely he will also have blooming plants for sale.

Home, TEN SHIN GARDENS, Quality?Rarity?Serenity

Thanks for the replies the pic is exactly the orchid I am looking for. There is an orchid show coming up in Feb. that I am going to . I did look at that web site and did see the tetraspis I am looking for. I emailed the vendor to find out (with spots) exactly means, because I want that particular orchid. If they have the one I want I will get it from them, but if it isn't then I will contact Ten Shin and order it to pick up at the show. Might I enquire as to the price? As Ten Shin and Crystal Star haven't a price on either of the web sites. Thanks again

I paid $35 from Ten Shin and it will have bloomed within a year.

From the last year catalogue:
Ten Shin Gardens blooming sized - $45
Kingfisher Orchids blooming sized with spikes(stem prop) - $50.
Crystal Star Orchids - don't know.
Just email all of them for the current price list. They all are good and quite responsive vendors, from my experience at least.

Correction: Ten Shin price above is actually from 2011 catalogue, sorry that's the latest I had.

Patrick at Kingfisher is probably your best bet. Here is his email address. He has a website but it is not up and running yet. kingfisherorchids@gmail.com Most vendors will know what you want if you just say C#1. Until they sort out the taxonomy on this one tetraspis or speciosa could be right. ;) I recently bought one from Big Leaf that was imported from Yaphon.

Thanks again for the help. Crystal star's tetraspis is going to be a seedling, so I will have to wait a while for a bloom. Maybe I buy one from them and one from Ten Shin, I just emailed them. I am so excited this will be my first orchid show. I've invited a friend of mine to come with me so I don't buy up the show and bring it home lol. I will post some pics of it.

ask for a discount for pre-ordering. Its pretty standard to get one. And then at the show, choose the best one on offer !

Well, if you want to see the blooms fast, I would suggest Patrick from Kingfisher too because his plants are with spikes already.

Congrats on your first orchid show! :)
