Miltonia Sunset

Here's the first bloom on this Milt that I got as a large seedling about 18mo ago. I fell in love with it when Silken posted a pic of a friend's plant, and then HAD to get one of my own!

Sadly it will likely go to the trash once it's done blooming. Most of the leaves have virus like mosaic pattern on them. It starts very faint on the new leaves, and gets more and more visible as the leaf ages. Luckily I found a nearby grower which has this plant, so I'll have to go over there one day to get another.

Its just gorgeous, Camille. Always love this one! :D
Too bad you have to toss. Well worth buying another for sure.
Enjoy the blooms :D

That's gorgeous! I'd definitely get another one.

Glad to see you got a bloom from this one. Mine is doing well with good roots and a few new growths but no blooms this time for some reason. Did you get yours from Ecuagenera? I hope mine isn't virused although I didn't really think it was based on its vigor. Some of my leaves are a bit spotty, but many of my Onc. type are.

I got mine from a place in the Netherlands that specializes in epiphytic plants in general. I have no idea where their seedlings came from. That's where I'll get the replacement from. I mentioned the virused plant when I saw them at a show in October, and they were very sorry about it, though the virus may have originated on my end, since the plant did summer outdoors. But apparently the ones they have now are from a different source. I think I'll buy 2 of them, since they're only 5€ apiece! But I have to wait until February. In January they are closed on saturdays, which is the only day that I can go...

I can tell, other than the symptoms, that this one's not well. It's growing very slowly, with small bulbs and poor roots. Very unusual for an Onc type, they tend to be very vigorous growers.

I'm sorry yours is sick and relieved mine came from elsewhere. Nice that you can replace it for such a good price! I would buy two also at that price.

The plant looks so much like a Miltoniopsis and I grow this one in fine bark whereas my Milts are in moss and mixes of bark and moss. This one has such vigorous roots compared to some of my Milts that I am tempted to try just bark when I re-pot some of them.

Nice color!!!

Oncidiums and their leaf issues...always a headache for me. I love their flowers but many have leaves that are just yuck!

I just dumped one oncidium l really liked. It had just terrible leaves.
Now I'm left with one Twinkle, one Tahoma Glacier, one Heaven Scent (that has subtle but strange mosaic marks on the leaves) and a bunch of miltoniopsis as far as oncidium hybrids are concerned in my collection.
I plan to get them all tested for virus and dump whatever comes out positive.

I should take a pic of the leaves on mine, the marks on the older leaves are anything but subtle!! Funny how yours get so much spotting. I have around 7-8 Onc types, and only one has a lot of spotting, and all the others it's just a few spots here or there. Maybe because I really try to never get any water on the leaves. I don't mind the spotting too much, the big sprays of blooms on the Twinkle types and Sharry Baby are worth the inconvenience.

Such a beauty!!!!
I'm very glad you can pick up a replacement (or two)!
