How dry is dry for phal mannii
Hi all,
I've transferred my phal mannii to a mount. I understand that they need a dry period to stimulate blooming. My question is how dry should I let it get during this dry period? At present I've been watering about once a week, as opposed to my other mounted plants which get water almost every day. Obviously it's bone dry by the end of the week, is this too dry, not dry enough, or about right? Is there any way to tell if it's getting too dry short of waiting for the leaves too get pruney? I don't want to stress the plant, but I want it to bloom, would love your input on this. Thanks in advance. |
I water my mounted mannii every day because by the next day it is bone dry. I do this year round and get great bloom.

Mine bloomed like a maniac without any dry period. If it's mounted I would water it daily as Brooke suggests.

follow up
Thanks for the replies, I guess I should go back to wattering this one regularly witht the others.
As a folow up, do you cut back on the fertilizer at all, or do you fertilize consistently durring the "dry" period as well? Thanks again. |
I reduce the fertilizer from November to March. I use 1/4 t. of MSU for pure water in the winter and 1/2 t. for the warmer months.
