what should i soak new bare root orchids in before potting them
:hello
i was curious as to see what my new bare root seedlings should be soaked in before potting them. I heard sea weed extract is good and i have that ( as i fertilise the other orchids with it ). i dont want to buy a root hormone or anything like that but my last lot of seedlings were not soaked in anything and they are all doing really well. do they need to be soaked? also the new shipped orchids have not arrived yet and that is why i am asking now. there are two cattleyas and a chysis. ( if that makes a difference ) also i have a phal seedling that i just potted up and it has 1 root and 3 leaves ( flaskling ), should i fertilise it? |
I dont know how old your bare root seedlings are and if they are new bare root seedlings they have no doubt just come out of the flask maybe.....if they are older bare root seedlings just pot them up as you will and shouldnt make a difference as long as you know your medium.
I have been potting up seedlings from flask and I soak them in 4 tablespoons sugar to 1 gallon of luke warm water with 2 drops phyton and a few smallish drops of superthrive. :twocents: |
brown or white sugar??
thanks for answering too! :) |
just plain old white sugar.. sugar is instant food, the phyton is for bacteria and fungus. whatever you have for that should be fine though. the superthrive gives it some hormones and vitamins..its like a supercharger for the roots before you dunk em in lifeless grit :)
