Sold on Kelpmax

Rescued a phal.--in sphag about 4-5 weeks ago--and transfered to s/h but lost all it's roots and yellowing of bottom leaves from shock. Took the orchid out, stripped off the outer layer of rotting roots, leaving the inner dense framework for support.
Started lightly spraying the bottom part of the orchid with 1:50 kelpmax about every other day. The yellow leaves started dropping and the first nub started appearing about 3 weeks ago. Total with 8 upper root tips, 2 more incoming nubs, and one new leaf . |
I am also sold on the product. I began applying it about 6-7 weeks ago on an every other day basis at the rate of 2 tsp per gal of RO. The first plant I saw results with is Jumellea comorensis. New roots tips sprouted sporadically all along the existing roots, old and new within the first week. As they developed I noticed an explosion of spikes and now almost 2 months later the plant practically doubled in length. All my plants are responding very well to the product. The Angraecoids and cattleya's were the first to respond and now I'm noticing a huge increase in the root production of my Bulbo's.

I absolutely agree. Kelp or seaweed products are the best supplements available to the orchid grower. I've had phenomenal success over several years with Maxicrop Liquid Seaweed. The most notable result from using seaweed is larger and more abundant root growth. It also seems to have positive affects on disease resistance, flower quality and color, and fragrance. There are several high quality seaweed products available. From your results I would say that Kelpmax is obviously one of the good ones.

I've had great root response using a combination of Kelpmax and KLM.

Since this particular phal has become rootless and auxin is only transported downwards inside a plant, I thought I would spray at a higher concentration to penetrate the thicker tissue higher up where new roots might form. |
