C. Karen Gubbler

Here's an oldy but goody. One of my rescues. 1 year in pot. It is C. karen gubler or Lc karen gubler. I would love any info you can find on this orchid. The tag was nearly impossible to read and all the rescues in this bunch are very old crosses. I appreciate any help.

James,

Karen Gubler does not show up in a search of the RHS, there isn't anything close that I could see either. We need more help from somewhere on this one.

Very pretty orchid. I like the white with a yellow center. I have a C Jose Marti that I hope will have as lovely a flower (it has a year or two, still, to reach maturity.
I hope you find the right name for your beauty! Good luck!

James,

Is it possible that this could be just C. Karen ? Could the name Gubler be a variety name? C. Karen is a very old cross, it was registered in 1945.

Thanks folks. The tag had karen gubler and that was difficult to read. Warren, that might be right. Most of the cattleyas from this group were old white crosses. The lady who grew them had mostly old crosses like General Patton which was registered around 1949 or so. Barbara Billingsley x bow bells. And a C. mary proebstle (?). So that may be it. If you find anything else on it would you pass it along. I'd appreciate it. Thanks for the effort.

Beautiful !

There is Gubler's orchids in So-Cal - perhaps that has something to do with what's on the tag? http://www.gublers.com/

White Cattleyas are just adorable....is it fragrant?

msaar 08-02-2012 02:10 AM

As in your other post, this probably C. Karin Ann Gubler. The correct name for the other you mentioned is C. Memoria Mary Proebstle.

Msaar, thanks a bunch. Is there somewhere you found this info? I'm a fiend for info on these old crosses. Bud, yes it is fragrant. But mostly when the sun is shining on it directly. It seems to be somewhat fragile too. Very thin sepals and petals. Sonya, you hit the jackpot. It is named for Hans Gublers daughter. Very interesting info on him. Thanks. If I get this to divide I'll get you a division.
