KLN vs Kelpak
 

I'm planning to transfer a cymbidium to s/h this week. While it's not the optimal time (no new leads) this is the growing season. I've got PrimeAgra soaking in water and want to add a growth /rooting stimulant to the pre-soak to help encourage a succesful transfer to s/h. I plan to also use the stimulant additive in the reservoir mix for the first week the cym is in s/h.

I have both KLN and Kelpak on hand but I'm not sure which product is best suited for my situation.

When is KLN the better choice or Kelpak? If Kelpak is good for a PrimeAgra pre-soak and newly transferred orchids then what ratio should I use?

Assuming the K-L-N is fresh, either one should work, as they both contain auxins. The major advantage the KelpMax (it is no longer sold as Kelpak) has over the K-L-N is the stability. Once the K-L-N is exposed to plant growing temperatures and light, it begins a fairly rapid decomposition, while the kelp extract is stable for for a long time, allowing greater chance of uptake.

I still carry K-L-N, but only use KelpMax as my growth-stimulant hormone choice.

I agree with Ray, you should get good results with either one.

Thanks guys. I have used KLN for a few years and I'm pleased with the results. But I still new to orchids and open to trying new products. I really like the idea of Kelpak's stability in varying temps since I grow outdoors.

It seems like everyone who uses a kelp based fertilizer with their orchids has excellent results. I can't speak to kelp vs. KLN though, as I've never used KLN.

Interesting. So is it better to store K-L-N stock solution in refrigerator or make alloquiots and freeze them?

I know Ray's said before that it's best kept in the refrigerator. Not sure about freezing it.

I cannot answer with 100% certainly, but I'd be concerned that ice crystals might break down the active ingredients.
