FRIDGE
Hello,
Do you know any system, which can reduce temperature during night ? As yet I use simply ice, but I plan to built larger orchidarium and I wish to it be more automatic. If there is any possibility to connect small fridge ? Please, write something or tell me the link to such article. Best regards, Piotr |
I suppose that you can use a small fridge, drill some holes on the top and vent the cool air into the terrarium with a fan. It might help to have a pot of water in the fridge to help stabilize the temps.

How big of a terrarium are you building?

I was thinking about fridge with pipe, but I am not sure if it won't damage quite fast - usually fridge is closed and doesn't work all the time, but with some break.
My orchidarium will be about 125 cm (length) x 70 cm (high) x 35 cm |
What growing conditions you going for? Cold, cool, intermediate... What type of lights? Any direct sun shining into the tank?
I think if you where to control the fridge by the air temp in the tank you should be ok!?! That size tank shouldn't take a whole lot to cold if there no major outside source of heat. The problem will be closing off the pipes to and from the fridge when you don't need cooling... Only thing I can think of is a backdraft damper. |
I converted a wine cooler into a highland orchid terrarium. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater
It's been going for a number of months and has flowered several species. |
I need cool to intermediate conditions for my plants. No sun, only fluorescent light.
The orchidarium in wine fridge looks great, but it is too small for me. Thanks for all reply. I will think, what can be the best for me. Piotr |
Good luck with your project and lets us know what you decide.
