Grammatophyllum scriptum v. kiilani
 

One of my top ten favorite orchids !!! A mini Gramma that bloomed 5 times last year, what's not to like ?!?!!! The tall spike is 16". My mentor has the full size scriptum and you measure the spikes in FEET !!! Somewhere from 4 - 6 FEET !!!

This would be a great variety for those that don't have the space for the usual Grammatophyllums. I especially like that you say that it bloomed 5 times for you last year, my scriptums only ever bloomed 1 time a year. (Granted there were blooms for 6 months from the time the first bloom opened to the last one falling off)

Chryss - Very nice indeed. I've never seen this variety for sale. Self it!!

What would that do, Glen ? There I go again !!! Seeds = plants = give, trade, sell !!!!! I divided it recently and gave 2 to previous requests and there are already 3 on the list for a piece !

Chryss - It's too early to be funny!! Hopefully it would retain it's mutated small size but you never know until you do it. It' a great little plant.

Well, I figured out how to "DO IT" by pulling off the lip with the side parts so you can see what you're doing ! I did all 7 on one spike to be sure !!!

So are the first few flowers on the spikes non-perfect. It is common for Grammatophyllums to have inperfect (and often sterile) flowers on the first few that open near the bottom of the spike.

They were all okay as far as I could tell ! A lot of them don't open fully at random. I've learned to put up with that as normal.

Very nice ! I am glad to know about this infos...I have two and they are very large Grammatophylum plants(two feet of leaves and bulbs)...two to four feet of spike is daunting since i am just a windowsill grower...

In fact I have the exact plant that you have but still a teenager...three bulbs and the new growth is fastly getting huge

Well, Bud, my pbulbs including leaves are 7 or 8 inches tall and I"ve had this plant since 10/2007. The whole plant including spike is 17" tall and the tallest spike is 16".
