I got this one in July last year from Santa Barbara Orchid Estate and to my surprise it is blooming for me after half a year,I am so...so...Happy:biggrin:
WOW! They are beautiful blooms....this looks like a happy healthy plant
Nicely flowered, but this doesn't look like longissimum, but a hybrid of longissimum.
Her blooms are similar to the ones sold at the Sta. Barbara estates...but in the official IOSPE photos shows only three petaled flower...its not a hybrid, its just a different form
that is a gorgeous set of blooms! so even and perfect and nice photos too!
---------- Post added at 08:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:15 PM ---------- OrchidWiz shows anywhere from two to about 6 petals in their photos. Some have lots longer tails tho. |
Thank you all of you,it is longissimum for sure but a different form like Bud already mentioned:)
It's beautiful, ewcia! I agree with msaar that it doesn't look quite like any of the other longissimum I've seen. SBOE doesn't seem to think it's necessarily the species, either, they call it 'longissimum type' on one page of their website... Maybe worth contacting them to see where they got it? Even if it's a hybrid it's not necessarily a man-made one. :hmm

SBOE used 'longissimum type' because they don't really know what it is and it is their way of letting you know what the flowers will look like. I really don't believe it is longissimum for a number of reasons. The lateral sepals are too open where they meet the column and they are way too short, just to name a few.

awesome! :wtg:

Well, I'm certainly not one to talk cuz I'm brain dead most of the time and not with the program the rest of the time. Having said that, this is my Bulb. longissimum from this past blooming season. While it looks very similar, one of the characteristics, I think, are its long "tails" on the petals. Also, since this is the 1st flowering, I wonder if they will be longer next time around?
