White Phalaenopsis Hybird Appears to be dying
 

I have a white phalaenopsis orchid that I recieved as a gift. I had trouble with it when I first recieved it because I had never had one before, but it did bloom and then the flowers began to fell off and I read that it wasn't getting enough light so I moved it to a different room. I also had trouble regulating the water. Well the orchid never rebloomed, but the stems and leaves always stayed green so I fertilized it and repotted it and let it sit directly in the sun because I thought it was over watered. Well finally one of the stems started to brown and now the one steam looks completely dead and it's leaf has fallen off, but the other stem is doing that too except at the bottom and the leaf has not fallen off yet and is still very green. I attached some pictures so any advice or help will be greatly apperciated. It was such a beautiful plant while it was blooming and I really don't want it to die, it has a lot of senitmental value to me. SO thanks again! :) I have other pictures also, but it wouldn't let me download them all so I can attach more later if needed.

I'm sorry but your phal doesn't look like it will survive. Phals need to be planted in the smallest pot that the roots will fit comfortably in, with a chunkier medium like bark or coconut husk chips that will allow air to circulate around the roots. The pot should have plenty of holes for good drainage also. Phals grow on trees with their roots out in the open air. The roots won't survive in soil or fine medium that doesn't allow for air and can't dry out quickly. Unfortunately I think it's too late for yours. Sorry.

They also do not do well in direct sun as they are a fairly low light plant. You should check the thread http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ends-here.html Do a little research on here or elsewhere and then treat yourself to a new one.

I would change it into coarser medium and put it into the a much smaller pot

All of these recommendations are fine and dandy, but look closely at the pictures, there were two growths and both have lost their crowns to crown rot. I say toss the plant and start fresh.

I'm a beginer too, so the more experienced folks are likely to be right. But if you are really attached to it, it won't do any harm to dig it up and post a pic of the whole plant, including roots (if any are left!)
