Not a Cattleya NOID? Translate label + leaf ??

Hi Everyone!

I confess, I couldn't pass this little orchid up. The pot is 1"x1" and it has some strange (to me) leaf issue. I think it's just dehydrated since it does have roots and was very dry, but thought you guys might can assist.

When I took it out of the netting in which it was packaged, the label in the pot says the following (keyed exactly as the tag reads):
HC 575 LC. SCHILLERIANA VAR. COERULEA
'PARADISE BLUE' WHITE W/BLUE LIP 4/12/11
I thought I was getting a little NoID but if I'm reading this correctly, this is a named hybrid. Can anyone translate it for me?

Also, the outside label says to transplant it immediately into a 5-6" pot. Is this the appropriate time for that? I thought one should avoid planting into much larger pots? Am I missing something?

Oh, and one more thing. The brown flaw in the center of the leaf, what is that? I sprayed it thoroughly for bugs and fungi, but haven't a clue what the brown spot is.

Thanks in advance! The leaf pics are below.

BTW, it isn't really blue. It's white bordered with light mauve on the petals and sepals, and a deep purple lip. Don't know why they call it "Paradise Blue" because blue it isn't.

Your plant is definately dehydrated, no it is not ready for a larger pot and the brown spot looks to me like mechanical damage.
I would take it out of the pot, clean it up and check the roots then repot in fresh media in the same size pot.
What about the name is confusing?

Hi Joann!

I was just commenting that the plant isn't blue but is named Paradise Blue.

ETA: at least the photo of the bloom isn't a blue flower. There aren't any blooms on the plant.

The tag, on the other hand, seems to indicate a definite parentage. Just guessing, but giving that sort of info seems to mean the plant may not be a NoID after all but something actually formally named. I guess I was wondering what the tag information meant.

Thanks for the tip on watering! Currently it's in a bark medium that appears good. So I ought to wait until the leaves smooth out before transplanting? I might have to water and spray this little guy daily for a short time to make that happen. I'm serious, the pot is like an inch square!

HC 575 LC. SCHILLERIANA VAR. COERULEA
'PARADISE BLUE' WHITE W/BLUE LIP 4/12/11

Your label: HC 575 is the growers info.
Lc Schilleriana var Coerula is the name of the plant. This plant is from the seed parent Cattleya intermedia and the pod parent Laelia purpurata.
The cultivar name is 'Paradise Blue'.
The description of the flower is white with a blue lip.

Blue is not an orchid color. There are shades of purple that come close to blue.

Hope this helps with your question.

It does, thank you so much!

So officially, is this a NoID or a named plant? Just so I can get a clue of how to know the difference.

Oh, one more thing. Once the leaves plump up, should I wait to transplant as directed, or wait for spring? And use that large a pot or something smaller?

It could be that your seeding sized plant is ready to be freshly planted in a slightly larger pot, but nothing over 3 inches

Take a look at your photo again. The "Paradise Blue" is about as blue as you can expect from this grex. The flower is white with slate-blue lip mid-lobe and edges of the side lobes. If the sepals and petals have any mauve on them, the photo is probably incorrectly labelled.

It looks like your seeding sized plant is ready to be freshly planted in a slightly larger pot, 2 or 3 inches, but no larger.

Woops, this message posted twice and I can't figure out how to delete it.

My apologies.

Oooooo, that's beautiful! I hope the pic on the outer label is wrong, I'd love to have one of those! The outer label had no variety name, just said Cattleya. The tag in the pot is what said "Paradise Blue."

Thank you so much! Now it's not just a challenge. It's a mystery!

Just to make sure I get this correct, wait until it's no longer dehydrated and then move to a larger pot but NOT the 5-6 inch pot specified on the label?
