I have a Phal suffering from rotten roots. I cut all the mushy, brown roots off and only a few remain. It is spiking two new shoots off the spike at the moment. I repotted it in a mixture of orchid bark mix and slightly dampened moss. Is there anything else I can do? I'm new to this.

I would remove the spike, in this case, to allow the plant to concentrate on new roots and leaves instead.

I would always advise potting one like this in a tiny tiny pot (an old yoghurt pot or something else small can be used). The main aim is to pot it in an environment where it can dry quickly, and thus be watered often, without causing further rot.

P.S. I've split your post off into it's own thread, as more people should see it then, than in someone elses intro thread.

I agree with RosieC 100%. I never like to cut off a flower spike but your orchid has no root system so it's on it's last legs. It's best to cut the spike off. Her advice about using a tiny tiny pot is exactly right. With those big leaves you can place your tiny pot inside a larger, heavier pot to keep it from tipping over.

Thank you for your quick responses! I don't wanna cut the spike off!! But, alas, to save the plant I must. Where do I cut it? Below the last node? I repotted it in the clear plastic "pot" it came in. It's tall but narrow, about a 4" inch diameter.

(Not the greatest picture, sorry)

The pot is still way too big. It needs to just fit the roots into it. Yes, cut below the lowest node so that it doesn't try to sub-spike.

Ok, a yogurt cup it is! What flavor do you think? Just kidding.

Thanks a lot!
