clear spots on flowers, white mold, brown spots on leafs..Need help!
Ok, so I had always wanted some orchids because I think they're absolutely beautiful.
This year, a couple of weeks for my birthday my boyfriend bought me a beautiful orchid plant. I read the instructions for care in the tag and was careful to adjust light conditions and water it with 60ml of water a week according to the tag. The first time I watered them I did pour some water on the leafs, now I know that that was a bad idea, but since then I was careful. A few days ago I noted some small clear spots on the flowers, they kinda look like holes but they're not really. The edges of the leafs are a bit red and the colour of leafs is a dark green. Some of the leafs have brown holes on them. Also, today I noticed that in some of the soil around the root there is some white stuff which looks like mold to me, it's also on the stick that goes in the dirt to hold the flowers up. I also noticed a small segment of the root is lying outside of the flower pot and it's dry. I think Im killing this plant slowly.. I need some help seriously. It is important to me that this plant survives so Ill do anything necessary to help it. |
Pix would help, post them if you can. My first thought is that your plant is in a pot without holes in the bottom. That would keep it too wet and promote what sounds like fungus. There is no set ammount of watering in the orchid world. The best way for an indoor windowsill grower is to take it into the kitchen sink and, provided that it's in a pot with holes in the bottom, thoroughly water it. I use the spray setting and water it until it's running out the bottom. When it stops put it in a saucer but do not let water sit in the saucer. It helps to have stones in the saucer for the pot to sit on or a plastic grid to let air get to the bottom of the pot. I don't know any household remedy for fungus but I use Physan 20 mixed according to the instructions and sprayed on the plant and media. I would also look for any kind of bugs that could be munching on your blooms or leaves.
Keep us up to date with your progress. |
Hello and welcome to the OB!
Is it possible to post a picture of your plant? It is so much easier to answer questions with a photo. Joann |
Ill take some pictures and post them tonight or tomorrow in the morning sometime. Thank you.

cant upload the photos
I hadnt been able to log in before because I had an exam on saturday, and yesterday I had a family dinner. Today, Ive been trying to upload the photos of my plant but it seems to just get stuck.
However, I just saw little white bugs crawling all over the soil near the roots of my orchids... parts of the roots have white fuzz and partly rotten. I really need help. |
Welcome to OB! If you have a Phalaenopsis, read this, it's the best thing you will find on taking care of Phals! http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ght=phal+abuse
