Orchid Tattoo

I need some help with an orchid tattoo. I want to get one on my side that will be kind of large, but don't want phalaenopsis. I would like to find a red/orange orchid that blooms multiple blooms on one spike. This is the only place I know of that has the people knowledgeable enough to be able to provide help. I have found some phrags, but don't know of anymore. Google images doesn't help much. I want my tattoo to be of a real orchid, not an imagined orchid. Thanks, guys! :bowing

How about a Psychopsis ? there's certainly orange in the blooms

a nice orange/red cattleya - often 3 blooms per spike
or an orange vandaceous

I love orange red catts. Fenders Flora has nice photos of orange/red catt types. Here's a link to one photo: Pot. Susan Fender `Cinnamon Stick`, AM/AOS x Blc. Goldenzelle `High Noon`

I'm not super duper familiar with any red/orange orchids, but I think a larger orange or red oncidium would look nice. I like that they have relatively long spikes, and I personally think a longer spike would make the best tattoo, particularly on one's side.

If you don't use it, I will! I have a large tattoo on one side and was going to get another one on the other, and I wanted it to be a flowering spike of orchids, hahaha.

I agree, a long flower spike would work the best. I want a deep and vivid color.

Great minds! You gotta post pics when you get your flowering spike tattoo. Would love to see how it turns out! I will post a pic of mine, when I get it.

seriously though, why not get your favorite flower? the tattoo will mean more to you if the type of flower has some significance to you personally

you don't need to limit yourself to orchids either. Some of the best floral tattoos I've seen are lotus, lily, or iris tattoos.

While not as bright as others mentioned, you could perhaps go with a Gongora tricolor or G. chocoensis if you'd like something a bit more unusual.

I'll definitely post pics when I get it but it won't be for a while -- my husband's finishing up his sleeve and it's usually best to have only one of us hurting at a time! want it for my birthday in October! I can't wait to see yours -- I love tattoos almost as much as I love orchids!
