Dendrobium Polar Fire
1 Attachment(s)
Hi - looking for some repotting advice.
My Den Polar Fire had a bad case of root rot over the winter, but has put up 3 new growths, with roots, which is promising. I'd heard that Dens could do this but hadn't seen it. Currently I've got it sitting in some sphag and I spray it every day. Just wondering about when and how to pot them? Would it be ok to leave them attached and pot the whole cane, or do I run a big risk of that rotting? Thanks!! |

I'm not sure, but congratulations.
I think I would at least leave them a bit longer until they get bigger, They will be using the stored reserves in the cane and could struggle on their own initially. But hopefully someone will be able to say if you are meant to remove the cane eventually. |
Thanks guys.
I agree Rosie - need to be a bit more robust before consider the next step! |
Those are tiny keikis. they may easily die any time. I would keep them attached as long as the original cane completely dries up or if it rots for being surrounded by sphag... But I have seen those tiny keikis develop ... Need a lot of patience

Thanks for the advice; I'll treat them very carefully! I had one die early on, and a 4th has recently sprouted, so I'm hoping for the best. It's such a beautful orchid!

I agree, I would keep doing what you are doing for now. Congrats on getting babies. All hope is not lost! Keep a positive attitude and you will be rewarded. Never give up on a chid, even if it looks like all hope is lost it may surprise you!
