Crown rot Ascocentrum ampullaceum/Basal Keiki
Hey guys my little asco got crown rot i wasnt paying attention to it and i did not prevent it.
So anyways it now has two side growths very small now even close to an inch long they both are only just putting out their first true leaves ill call them. how long till i see blooms on these. if they make roots there is a place where i can separate them from the mother. I ask because if it going to take a very long time i will just get another one. i found one cheap so i figured i would ask before i took action. if you need pics here they are just in case lol! http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...m/IMG_4038.jpg http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...m/IMG_4041.jpg http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...m/IMG_4040.jpg So what do you guys think? long time before they yield blooms? you can see in the second pic how i was gonna slice the top off essentially when it made enough roots to make a new plant. ~Sam:biggrin: |
I would imagine getting these little dudes to bloom is going to take quite awhile.

It'll take a while, but not several years.
I'd say that it'd be between 1 - 2 yrs before you get some good roots to form on them before considering their removal. Who knows, it may even grow a sufficient amount of roots to consider keiki removal within a year as well (it'll be closer to the 1 yr mark). The shoot itself will grow large enough within a year. It's the roots that take longer to grow out. If you're worried mama plant's gonna keel, I don't think it's goin' anywhere. ;) Have you noticed your mama plant is gonna bloom? |
Yah i saw that myself believe it or not that is actually from an old spike, the buds blasted months ago. i clipped the tip that was all brown and then this thing started about a month or 2 ago. growing slowly. this guy is a fighter even with the crown rotted it made about 6 bloom spikes. all but two stems blasted and the ones that made it only had 5 to 3 flowers each.
1-2 years for roots............. i may hold on to it but again i may not. im not sure. thanks for the info!!! |
Wait...
So most of the blooms have blasted? That's not right. What's going on do you know? Too little water? Too much? Humidity too low? |
yah it was weird there was adequate humidity for sure because my angraecum's were blooming along with my other phalaenopsis. if any thing i let it stay too dry
