Help with ID if possible
I just bought this NoID at the local market.
The seller said it was a Cymidium. Don't know if it's spelled like that, but she pronounced it like Cymbidium without a b. I can't find anything named like that except Cymbidium, and that it is not. I then did some searching and found the Miltonias and especially Miltonia clowesii, where the patterns on the sepals resembles the patterns on my NoID. Then i did some more searching and found intergeneric hybrids like Beallara and Miltassia ... and then I'm lost. I do understand that if it's a hybrid it's allmost impossible to ID it, but am hoping that the flowers and the colors on this one looks so special, that someone have seen it before. At least to me it looks special - maybee it isn't. The flowers are 8 cm. wide. http://aquabo.dk/img/orchid11h/P2216238.JPG http://aquabo.dk/img/orchid11h/P2216242.JPG http://aquabo.dk/img/orchid11h/P2226281.JPG |
I would be researching the MILTASSIA line. Its definitely not a cymbidium. You could look in the Beallara section as well. It belongs to the Oncidiinae family.

Maybe they said "Oncidium" which might sound a little bit like "Cymbidium"?
It's definitely not a Cymbidium - it has whopping great big pseudobulbs and the leaves and flowers are all wrong. It's not a pure Oncidium either, the flowers are way too showy and the wrong shape. Roy looks like he's on the right track to hunt down what this might be, go with that! |
can i just say they look like amazing flowers!

It's an Oncidium intergeneric with Brassia and Miltonia in it - beyond that pretty hard to tell, but if you grow it like a Miltassia you'll be on target with your culture.

looks like a Miltassia (Miltonia x Brassia)

Thank you very much for your inputs.
I will label it NoID for now and grow it like a Miltassia, and then take a closer look at the nothogenera Beallara and Miltassia. |
I have found Miltassia Sadie Loo x Miltonidium Christmas Eve which looks very close to mine.
I will still label it NoID and make a note in my records about Miltassia Sadie Loo x Miltonidium Christmas Eve. |
