Humidity needed for Ascocenda root growth
 

I was wondering if anyone knows what humidity level is good for growing Ascocenda roots? I bought an Ascda. a couple months ago that was dehydrated. I potted it in order to rehydrate it, but left it in the pot too long and rotted some of the roots. Even with fewer roots it seems to be getting enough water, but I'd like it to put out some new roots. My house humidity is generally between 40-50%. Is this enough?

They aren't growing much for the winter. I mist mine twice a day and keep at about 60 degrees. The eyes have pulled back in, waiting for warmer weather.

I agree - the aerial roots on my Ascda. are not growing at this time ... I do spritz them daily, enough for them to "green" ...
I grow my Ascda potted - it's in a clay pot, media consisting mostly of tree fern fiber - since it's a clay pot, I don't really know the condition of the roots in the pot, but the aerial roots are good. I've had this plant almost two years - spiked twice last winter, and is in spike now - so they definitely can be grown potted and in low humidity ...
During summer here, we might get as high as 40-50% overnight - daytime usually less than 30%, and not unheard of to be teens or less ...

The roots really don't grow much in the winter. My Vanda plant grows and blooms in the winter, but the roots slow down and some die. I mist if the air seems dry, or on sunny days. Mine is in a basket with spagnum and charcol
