My Bulldog Paph with 3 flowers open
I posted pics of this paph last month because it's first rebloom had opened.
Not long afterwards the second flower on that spike opened, and then a third flower on another spike opened. Took me a while to get pictures taken, glad I did last week because the first flower is now fading. These pictures actually have more acurate colour than my last pictures which were a little red. It's actually browner like in these pictures. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_o4OXVkcS2VU/TO...20%2810%29.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_o4OXVkcS2VU/TO...20%2829%29.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_o4OXVkcS2VU/TO...20%2832%29.JPG |
Beautiful! I love the shape!

It's gorgeous Rosie. Did you have a lot of fans on it before it bloomed? Mine currently has 5 new fans... no sign of a flower though.

Thanks Nicky and incredibleorchids.
Nicky, I bought it with just one fan, in flower. Soon after flowering it started 4 new fans. It took two years growing these fans with no sign of flowers, a few months ago I spotted first one, then a second spike in the largest two. It now has another 3 fans just starting, so there are now 2 large unflowered fans and 3 tiny ones. |
Good news for mine then! Maybe next winter!

It's gorgeous!! I didn't know that bulldog paphs could have more than one bloom open.

Thanks Camille,
I guessed it was quite possible for two fans to flower together... but was really suprised to find two buds on the one spike. The two buds formed together, one of them upside down with it's underside upwards and pressed against the underside of the first. The upwards one was always somewhat bigger than the lower. About a week before the upper one started to open (which took a long time) the lower one started to turn. I wish I had taken pictures of the late stage of the buds now, but it doesn't look like I did. By the time I took pictures of the first flower, the lower bud had already turned over. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_o4OXVkcS2VU/TL...20%2820%29.JPG It's not like the sequential bloomers (like Pinocchio) which form new buds, one after the other. This was definately two forming together. The second spike looked like it could have formed two as well, with a bud sheath for a second bud, but no second bud ever formed on that one. |
Thanks WhiteRabbit :)
