Hello from South Florida!

Hello all! Brand new to the site. I've got a small but growing Orchid collection.. 3 Phal's, 1 Dendro, 1 Oncidium, and an Encyclia Tampensis..

I've already been learning a little just browsing over the threads. I've got a few questions to start off though..

What do you all think of the Better-Gro brand of potting mixes and the Orchid Plus, and Blossom Booster? They all say they're endorsed by the American Orchid Society..

AND one more question.... I have a new shoot branching off the top of my Dendrobium which is growing roots at the base. How easy is to seperate and and propogate the new growth section?

Thanks in advance!

- Jason

Just wanted to pop in and say hello.

I can't recommend any of the products you listed as I don't use any of those.

There's a South Florida Grower's Social Group--come in and join. :)

Welcome to the OB. :)

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

I've used the orchid plus and it is a nice mix. Your keikis (baby)needs to have two inch roots and then just bend it off., and plant it. It's a whole new plant just like Mama, or you can leave it alone and it will bloom right there along with Mama. Please join our social group Florida Orchid Lovers, we talk about a lot of things dealing with growing orchids in Florida. It's on the site menu.

Howdy do!

Welcome aboard the board!

Lots of smart and friendly folks here - you'll learn a great deal, I sure did. I usually learn something new each time I come here. Either coz your stumbled on something you didn't know, or you have questions that someone is able to answer.

Either way -- Enjoy!

Hello Jason, welcome to OB! I am in S Florida, too. I have used the better grow products in the past but have moved away from bark as much in the last few years. Broward Orchid Supply ??????????????? has many different potting products (check them out on the web) and better fertilizers. They are experts on these products and the fertilizers recommended for our climate. "Southern Ag" formula is what most of us are using now. They are in Hollywood but you need to call before going by there or you can see them at all the shows.

You probably would enjoy joining one of the local orchid societies. There are so many down here! I belong to Flamingo Gardens OS. You get to meet lots of other orchid nuts and learn from them!

Once again, welcome!

Welcome to the Orchid Board! I just registered here as well, and you'll meet wonderful people, and learn new things! It's wonderful because we all share one thing in common, a love of orchids. :D

As for your keikis, I would follow Carols advise!
