Phalaenopsis - is that long outgrowth going to be a flower, too?
Hello there,
what is my phal doing here? I understand that she's going to bloom soon, but I have never seen those little, thin outgrowths before. Thank you very much for your help, I'm still pretty new to the addiction :blushing: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4118/...504bebc8b9.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/...3fa28f6ce8.jpg And, I've just cleaned her after seeing the pictures... There were two in one pot and I wasn't able to seperate them when I repottet them, I hope that's OK? Thank you so much again, Greetings, Jane |
Yes - those are branches on the spike, and they too will develop buds.
I also have two phals that came in one pot, and even after cleaning away old media and untangling roots, they weren't coming apart, so I left them together. So far both are fine and both are spiking :) |
Oh thank you so much!
I didn't know that they develop branches on brandnew spikes, I've only seen them doing that on cut back spikes. How exciting - even more flowers- yay! ;)) |
some hibrids have it in their parentage to branch. i personally like the branching phals. once yours goes into full bloom, it should be a great display
|
Yes, branches. Very nice, healthy plant, too!
|
Yup. :D Beautiful and healthy also!

I keep saving the phalaenopsis that friends and family throw away - I'll never quite understand why people keep doing that. Those are so easy to cultivate and if you have a few of them, one is mostly always in bloom...
|
I had one of those offshoots and now have some beautiful blooms. It's a real treat...enjoy!!!
