Myrtle Beach Vendor?
Hey everyone,
So my fiance and I are heading to Myrtle Beach, SC in a few weeks.. And out of curiosity, does anyone know of any vendors near there? I never pass up a chance to look at some orchids (or purchase??):whistling Thanks! |
So much for spelling Myrtle correctly in the thread topic.. my fingers got ahead of my brain haha

I'm afraid I can't help Amber, except for correcting the title for you :)

Unfortunately, about the closest place is Orchidview in Moncks Corner, near Charleston, about 90 miles south of MB.
I'm headed that way (North Litchfield Beach, about 15 miles south of MB) on July 4th for a week, but I'm focusing on fishing, crabbing and wine. |
Rosie, thank you for correcting it for me! I was staring it last night hoping that I, or at least someone, could fix it for me! I wouldn't call it OCD, just picky:D.
Ray, thanks for your information! Maybe (:crossfing) I can talk Nick into driving out of our way for a little bit! Fishing, crabbing and wine you say? Those are 3 of my favorite things! Aside from a few others.. Nick bought me a PINK fishing rod for my birthday! Then I bought my God Daughter a purple and pink princess rod for her birthday on this past Wednesday. Crab meat is a weakness of mine. And need I really say anything about wine? :cloud9: mmm! I hope your vacation is wonderful! Sure sounds like it will be! (and ps. I love S/H! I just started using the s/h method about a month ago and so far so good! Unfortunately, due to previous debit card fraud, I didn't order a kit from you because I'm paranoid about online purchases anymore. So I used Hydroton and clear plastic paint mixing containers that we burnt the 2 holes into. But even though we didn't go through firstrays, I wouldn't have the success I am having without you! So thank you again!) |
If you decide to visit Orchidview, I would get in touch with them ahead of time to make sure someone will be there. The Nortons are great folks but are not always at the greenhouse.

Hmmm...don't know of any in the Myrtle Beach area, but depending on which way you drive down you might pass some good ones along the way. Ones I particularly like:
Owens Orchids is near Asheville, about 30 minutes off I-26 in Pisgah Forest. Doesn't seem very well-known anymore, but has a really nice selection of Phals and Catts, plus a bunch of more obscure stuff if you poke around in the back. Marble Branch Farms is in Walhalla, SC, probably about an hour side-trip each way from I-26, but WELL worth your time if you like Cattleya species and hybrids. Amazing prices and very nice proprietors; just make sure you make an appointment before heading over. Carter and Holmes is further down I-26 in Newberry, SC, IIRC only about 10-15 minutes off the interstate. This place is huge, plan for a few hours if you stop there! Carolina Orchids is about 3 minutes off I-77 just over the state line from Charlotte. Woodland Orchids is also in the Charlotte area, but I can't remember their proximity to I-77 (probably not too far, though). Carolina has one of the bigger inventories of Bulbophyllums in the US, plus a lot of other hard-to-find things in various genera. Woodland seems to specialize in Oncidiums and has a lot of nice plants as well. Orchid Trail is right near the Raleigh-Durham airport, I think only about 10 minutes or so off I-40. I've only been there once, but they had a lot of unusual plants and some really great deals on supplies (18x36" treefern slabs for $8!). Hope this helps, Amber! :) --Nat |
