Paph ID help?

2 Attachment(s)
I bought this paph at Ikea a couple months ago. A couple photos are below. Any idea what kind it is? I assume it's some sort of hybrid, but if I could get a better sense of the variety that would help. If you can't tell from the photos, the leaves are a light solid green - not mottled like some paphs.

Thanks in advance!

Your plant is probably Paph Henrietta Fujiwara, commonly seen in this green/white (alba) form, a cross of 2 species, haynaldianum and primulinum. There are a number of similar hybrids, but they aren't as often seen as albas.

Just googled Paph Henrietta Fujiwara and it looks spot-on. Thanks!

You're welcome. Hybrids of Paph primulinum are usually easy and vigorous.

That's good to hear. Both of the blooms have dropped and the spike turned brown, so I cut it down near the base. For now I'm just keeping the medium moist, not letting dry completely between waterings.

It looks like a single growth plant, since each growth only blooms once you'll have to wait for a new growth to come on and mature, that could a few years. so why are you buying an unlabled orchid at a furniture store anyway? I'd say never buy a single growth paph it's too young and unstable. Good luck :twocents:

Ikea actually has a lot of orchids and they are cheap so I always check out their selection when I'm there. If this plant doesn't make it, at least I didn't spend a lot of money on it. We'll see how it goes!

Hmmmm... A bit pessimistic. This type of hybrid isn't as fast growing as some, but if well cared for there is a good chance it will mature a new growth and flower by next year, and every year thereafter, and will only improve with age. It can have 4-5 flowers on more mature plants, and they will be larger too. Inexpensive Paphs sold in flower will usually be single growth and can be a great bargain, with or without a name. Great starter plants for first time Paph growers. :twocents:
